Love ’em or hate ’em, Harbor Freight Tools has some great deals on lots of tools we don’t care about keeping long-term. And, to be fair, some of their bigger-ticket items are solid—like certain floor jacks, tool chests, and air compressors that many have trusted for years.
Harbor Freight is well-known for their old-school parking lot sales and coupon ads—big, busy full-page coupons with bright colors and loud callouts. Some of those offers include “sale” or “compare at…” pricing.
Problem is: some products were never priced higher than their advertised “sale price,” so that “sale price” was a lie. This, according to a suit brought by Cleveland-based Dworken & Bernstein, which Harbor Freight recently settled.
The settlement applies to goods purchased between April 8, 2011 and December 15, 2016 at Harbor Freight stores across the country. Here’s how you could benefit:
- If you have itemized receipts, you can submit a claim for a minimum of 20% of the “you saved” amount in cash or 30% of that on a gift card.
- If you don’t have itemized credit or debit card statements, you can get up to 10% cash back (or 12% in gift cards) on total purchases of “qualifying products.”
- If you don’t have receipts, you can fill out a form to make a sworn statement confirming your claim and get a $10 gift card.
To receive a payment, you must complete a Claim Form and mail it, or submit it online, no later than August 7, 2017.
