Admittedly, here in Florida, we don’t need no stinkin’ snow blowers. In fact, it would appear that Florida has decided to boycott Winter this season. That sucks because I like cold(ish) weather and reasonable amounts of snow. I do know people, or at least know people who know people, who use snow blowers. And since we’ve got readers all over the country—some of whom are getting hammered with snow right now—let’s take a look at a cool new cordless snow blower, shall we?
EGO is best known for its cordless lawn mowers and other outdoor power equipment that the company says have the power of gas equipment but without all of the noise, fuss or fumes. All EGO products are powered by the company’s POWER+ ARC Lithium battery platform, with uniquely designed batteries that run cooler than other brands’ and incorporate advanced cell management software for longer run-times.
The EGO POWER+ Cordless Snow Blower is no different. In fact, with EGO’s Peak Power technology, this powerhouse snow blower allows you to combine any two of EGO’s ARC Lithium batteries—even different Ah batteries—to power through even the toughest of heavy, wet snow.
You’ll have plenty of time to do so, too. With two 7.5Ah batteries, you’ll get about 90 minutes of run time out of EGO’s high-efficiency brushless motor or 60 minutes with two 5.0Ah batteries installed. You can buy the EGO snow blower with either two 7.5Ah batteries, two 5.0Ah batteries, or as a bare tool if you already own other EGO products with the same batteries. If you buy a kit with the batteries included, a rapid charger is also included, which will charge a fully depleted 7.5Ah battery in about 60 minutes and a 5.0Ah in about 30 minutes.
The EGO’s 21″ wide intake can clean snow from most sidewalks in less than two passes, while the variable-speed auger controls how far snow is thrown, with a maximum throwing distance of a whopping 35′. That could be super-fun if you wish to bury your neighbor’s driveway as you clean yours. A convenient handle-mounted chute-adjustment lever allows you to redirect snow output up to 180˚ from side-to-side. The handle also incorporates a safety button and bail switch, which engages and disengages the motor and auger.
The EGO’s weather-resistant, beefy steel and composite construction is built for aggressive use in demanding conditions, even in the early morning or evening hours, as its two bright LEDs light the way. When your work is done, the quick-fold handle allows for compact storage.
The EGO Power+ Snow Blower with two 7.5Ah batteries and rapid charger is available for about $800 at Home Depot. There’s also a 5.0Ah kit for $600. For whatever reason, the cost is a little more on Amazon.com. The unit is backed by a five-year limited warranty.
